Paul Mitchell: The Detangler

This conditioner left my hair feeling like butter. I did a cowash and finger combed the product through, let it sit for 5 minutes and rinsed. Try it!

Note: I'm always a fan of the Sally's generic brands. They work exactly the same and come in bigger quantities :-)

Color Wars

To color or not to color...that is the question.

On hair that is so fragile, it's definitely a gamble.

I got my hair colored in March of 2009 and at first I loved it. I did highlights, but without the bleach so it was pretty healthy looking. I deep conditioned constantly and had no issues...until the Blowout Nightmare. When I went to the salon to get it straightened and they used too much heat, guess what got damaged the worst...you've got it. The colored hair. I've been cutting it inch by inch since October :-(

I have friends who have had great experiences with coloring, but most would admit that their hair feels a little bit dry and needs a lot of conditioning and moisturizing.

I definitely think it's up to you, but for me, it will be a while before I color again.

3rd Day Hair Success!

Don't know how, but my 3rd day hair looks great! I posted my updated routine yesterday and whatever I did, it still looks good enough to continue to wear out. Score.

If your 3rd day hair is looking good here's a tip:

Wet the perimeter just a little bit and add a little hair butter (may I suggest Miss Jessie's Buttercream?) or a light gel (I like IC Fantasia gel with sparklites which you can get from any pharmacy, sally's or target). It'll make the hair soft and make the curls pop.

My Regular Routine (about 3x per week depending on humidity)

First, I wash with conditioner and leave it in for 5 minutes in the shower. The conditioner these days is a mixture between 1/2 ORS Replenishing Conditioner and 1/2 Paul Mitchell, The Detangler (or the generic brand from Sally's :-)) I use a wide tooth comb to detangle, which is why it's important for the hair to be soaking wet when you apply the conditioner.

Next, with hair soaking wet, apply a half dollar size of Paul Michell "The Conditioner" (or the generic from Sally's) to each section of hair (about 4). In my opinion, I think you can messily part each section so that the hair stays wet and it's a fast process. For those who choose to use a comb, part it, and go through all of that, just be as quick as possible so you can apply your product to wet hair.

Then I add the product to 4 sections. I am loving Hair Rules for Kinky Hair. http://www.hairrules.com/ If you use this product, don't put too much. I use about a dime size for each section and smooth it into my hair.

By this time your hair should still be super wet. Take a towel and gather your hair and wrap it around the hair (like they do on tv, lol!) Then undo the towel right away and voila! Let the rest airdry :-) Since you've already taken care of the excess hair, it should be dry by the time you get to where you're going.

I love the Hair Rules stuff I told you all about. My hair looks super curly and has less shrinkage. I do a cowash, Leave In, the use the Hair Rules (pictured in a previous post.) I wrap my hair in a towel for about 15 minutes, then blot it and go. New Staple!

Little Curly Hair Lesson:

Don't let a group of 6th grade girls play in your hair for 2 hours. You'll look like Don King.LOL

The perfect puff for a humid day :-)

1. First you take a thin headband and cut it so it's one long string.

2. Wet the perimeter of your hair a little and with a tiny bit of gel. Don't wet all of your hair or the puff will be flat. Yuck!

3. Place it around the perimeter of your head and lightly tie it at the nape of your neck.

4. Slowly pull, like a drawstring, until it's tight, but comfortable. Then double knot.

Fluff and go!
